Veridium's Homeguard protects you and your kids online and offline by blocking offensive material, monitoring and recording activity, and limiting access time. It monitors and filters email, chat, and other social media; takes activity-based screenshots; and sends email notifications. It runs in the background, undetectable and inaccessible without the master password. It can't be closed, bypassed with proxies, or uninstalled without administrative permission. Homeguard is free to try for 15 days. We tried Homeguard's 64-bit version in Windows 7 Home Premium SP1.
Homeguard's installer prompted us to create a password, write it down, and save it in a safe place. We agree. Some say never write passwords down, but lost passwords sometimes can't be retrieved. We initiated system monitoring and started the Viewer, which summarized activity in an easy-to-read table on its home page. The toolbar accessed screenshots and other recorded data. The built-in keylogger recorded every keystroke in every open program in text files. Thumbnails and tree views made it easy to view and organize saved data. The Basic Settings are anything but basic: We could set exclusions, keyword triggers, blocked and allowed sites, printer access, removable devices, time limits, and much more. Extensive online help includes a full manual plus extra material on filtering, security issues, and related matters.
With Homeguard, you can see everything your kids are doing online. It's easy for you to use and hard for others to detect or remove.
Editors' note: This is a review of the trial version of HomeGuard (64-bit) 1.8.3.
